The Siren

Hi all!

My name is Chiara and I’m a bookworm.

Today I’m going to be reviewing my latest read The Siren by Kiera Cass.

First of all I would like to say that you shouldn’t judge this author’s work by what I am about to say. I have read Kiera Cass’ other work and loved it.

I started reading it and it didn’t immediately hook me but I persevered with it because it has been in my TBR pile for way too long.

I think the book has a lot of potential but for me there was no depth to the characters, it doesn’t … appeal to the age it is advertised for, or rather it just doesn’t appeal to my age.

Kiera Cass can create characters that have unending depths of personality and worlds were the reader feels like she knows every single detail. She did it with the Selection series. I loved the whole series. But with this, it’s not quite the same. The history of each of the main characters is hinted at but the only character who you ever hear any backstory for is Akinli. In some way that’s part of the story but it left me feeling as if I was missing … something. In some ways I thought it may be because it was a stand alone novel, but I’ve read other stand alone that have the depth of a series.

Another point a feel I must make is that nothing much seems to happen. A lot of time passes without much happening and the events that do happen don’t leave any … build up, gusto, emotion, adrenaline. All the climax is in the last quarter of the book, or maybe even less.

However given all its faults, I still seemed to enjoy it and once it came to the exciting moments I couldn’t put it down. In many ways I didn’t want it to finish. I wanted there to be more. But I’m very glad it’s over.

I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone of my age, I’m not sure it sits well in the ‘young adults’ category, but for younger readers, teens maybe, it would suit them better.

Once again, my name is Chiara and I’m a bookworm.

  1. This book disappointed me a lot. Specially because I read Keira Cass’s other works and I liked them , and this book is about sirens , and I’m interested in reading about them. Even though the sirens in this book were interesting but they were the only interesting thing in the whole book. Everything that happens is boring.
