Hi all,
My name is Chiara and I am a Bookworm.
So today’s review of choice is Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins. This book was previously entitled Royals in case you have read or recognise this book under it’s previous name.
Meet Daisy Winters. She’s an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair, a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who’s nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.
While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince’s roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown–and the intriguing Miles–might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself
So to begin with I got this blurb off Goodreads, like I do with all my blurbs, however this blurb does not match the blurb on the back of my book. The blurb on the back of the book and the blurb here I found slightly misleading when I actually got into reading the book. It is not the way that I would write a summary of this book.
I enjoyed the book, don’t get me wrong. It is a light summer read, something I would recommend taking on holiday with you to enjoy while sunbathing near some sunny pool. It’s that sort of book. Not trash, but defiantly not War and Peace.
I loved Daisy’s character. She is charming and enjoyable. As a Brit I love to read American opinions on British life. Daisy’s reaction to black pudding was priceless though I would have loved for one of the Royal Wreckers to actually tell her what was in it, and for her to try it.
Miles was great, though I would have like a bit more depth to his character. In fact I would have like the book to be about 100 pages longer. Each character could have done with more background and character. In some places backstory was lacking. The misunderstanding were in my opinion only minor and Hawkins somehow misses to get across the importance or the dramatics of some of his events.
My other major let down was the new and blog articles that appeared at regular points during the book. I think they needed more differentiation from the rest of the text than just a different font. So much could have been done with them than just the article and a small footnote at the bottom as to where it had come from. Each one, though the articles were brilliant, lacked a bi of flare to really make them interesting.
Overall I enjoyed it, but it definitely has room for improvement.
Would I read it again? Maybe
Would I recommend it to a friend? Maybe. It would depend on the friend and what sort of read they were asking for.
