Top 10 Tuesday: Book Cover Redesigns I Loved/Hated

Hi all!

My name is Chiara and I am a Bookworm.

Top 10 Tuesday, as you should know by now, is a book meme currently hosted by that artsy reader girl. Each week she gives us a topic and you write a list with that interpretation of the topic. The list can be 1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 but generally I stick to 10.

This week’s topic is ‘Book Covers Redesigns I Loved/Hated’

I spent ages trying to complete this topic. Unfortunately I tend to judge books by their cover, well, they are at least what gets me to pick them up, and that means I can be pretty picky when it comes to book covers. I like what I like and dislike what I dislike.

Having said all that, I could only think of four redesigns that I really didn’t like.

As a rule, I don’t like film covers. It was a book first … why give it a special cover. And usually the reminder on the cover of what the film industry thinks these characters look like restricts my imagination. So I have not included any books designs I don’t like because they became film covers.

But without further ado … here is my list

1. Princess Diaries

I love these covers, but hate the redesign they have done since then. And also why have the changed the titles of all the books.

2. Harry Potter

Luckily they never did film covers of Harry Potter. But when they did the anniversary redesigns, as pretty as they are, I wasn’t a huge fan. I much prefer the originals. And since then there have been so many different copies. I have one set of friends (twins who are obsessed with Fred and George) who at one time bought every version of Harry Potter books and films that were released. I would much rather just stick to my originals.

3. Women of the Otherworld

I have always preferred the UK covers of the Women of the Otherworld series. I have seen so many redesigns when it comes to the American covers, but I think that the UK covers and so much more simple and elegant.

4. Gallagher Girls

The Gallagher Girl books I had when I was little where cute and simple. Girls posing in the Gallagher Girl uniforms and then the title. Simple. Easy. I don’t like the American covers or any of the redesigns that they have done since then.

Do you like/ dislike these covers? What are your favourite covers? Let me know in the comments down below.

  1. I’m generally not a fan of film editions of book covers either. The only exception for me would be the film editions of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I also like my original Harry Potter covers. I have the US version. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

  2. I love so many editions of Harry Potter but I agree about the originals being the best. They’re gorgeous. I have a soft spot for them above all else. I had no idea they changed the titles to some of the Princess Diaries books, yikes. And ohhh I definitely prefer those versions of the Gallagher Girl novels! I don’t mind the American versions but they always felt like they were missing something and I think the ones you like best truly are superior.
