Hi all!
My name is Chiara and I am a Bookworm.
It has been so long since I read this and I’ve been putting off writing this for way too long.
My book to review is Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
The Queen has returned.
Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…
She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.
She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.
It has been way too long since I read this. But I really enjoyed reading this … I think it was the fastest that I have read any of the books. It was, to be cheesy and cliche, unputdownable. I couldn’t get enough of this book.
In previous reviews of SJM’s work I have found the beginning slow and it needed time to build up to the action, to get some momentum going, but this book hit the ground running. From the first page there is always something that is going on.
I think my favourite new thing in this book is either Manon and, in order not to give too much spoiler info, the role that she plays in the story, or the relationship between Aelin and Aedion. Aelin hasn’t had that sort of relationship before with any of the other characters. That instant closeness and almost constant exasperation is just brilliant.
The worse thing for me about reading the book was that my dad knew what was going on. He’d read it and I was getting within 50/100 pages of the end and I couldn’t see and end in sight. I didn’t know how I was going to bare the ending of the book and my favourite character, Dorian, I could see no way out for him. The tension was almost unbearable.
This is my favourite book in the series so far … but I can’t wait to finish the next one.
