Hi all my bookworms,
How are you all keeping?
My name is Chiara and I am a Bookworm.
This week’s topic is a freebie topic, meaning that Jana, our lovely Top 10 Tuesday host, has given us a very loose topic title and let us loose with whatever we want. This week it was a genre freebie. Any topic you want as long as it is genre based. For anyone that doesn’t know Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme originally created by The Broke and The Bookish in 2010 and switched to That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018. My chosen topic is ‘children classics that have been on my TBR forever’.
When I was quite young my grandfather saw in the newspaper that you could buy a collection of classic children’s stories. The first was Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and I wanted it so he subscribed to the entire series. A series I still have to this day. Some of the stories included in the collection I have read over the years, but there are a majority that I have still to read. All of these are on my TBR so I thought I would share them with you.
Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome
Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit
The Story of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Lewis Carol
Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi
The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathon Swift
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson
What classic children’s books have you not read? Have you read any of these? Where would you recommend I start?
I loved Black Beauty when I was a kid. Good list.

There are a ton of children’s classics I haven’t read, unfortunately. I’ve actually only read a few of the ones you list. I need to catch up!
Happy TTT!

I haven’t read many classics, at all. I have several of these that I own. Since I have my own kid now, I’m going to wait and read them with him. 🙂

I like the idea of this Top 10 theme. I have some children’s books I’ve never read but hope to one day. We kind of forget about them, don’t we?

We really do. I’ve had this collection of books since I was 8/9 years old and I’ve read so few of them.

Classics, by the very definition!

They are classics for a reason. We should be reading them.

Such a fun, nostalgic list!
I love Peter Pan and The Wind in the Willows. As you know, I haven’t read Dr Dolittle yet either. I also aspire to read more Nesbit including The Railway Children. I’ve only read Five Children and It by her and loved that the story reminded me of Narnia in many ways.
Good luck with your list!

The only reason I have heard of Five Children and It is because of the film. I didn’t know Nesbit wrote the book.

I will have to check out the film. I’m curious how it would adapt to the screen. Yeah, Nesbit wrote more than I realized!

I’ve actually only read two of these myself; Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan so I will have to check some of the others out. Great idea for a post 😀
