Top Ten Tuesday: Reasons Why I Love Bookshops

Hi all my Bookworms!

My name is Chiara and I am a Bookworm.

How are you all?

So Tuesday again.  I think we are developing a bit of a pattern here.

Each week I am doing Top Ten Tuesday and I am loving the topics at the moment.

I am hoping that you all know what Top Ten Tuesday is but in case you don’t Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme originally created by The Broke and The Bookish in 2010 and switched to That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018.  This week’s topic is ‘Reasons Why I Love …’

I thought about this long and hard and what I should be loving.

I mean I love a lot of things but I wasn’t sure exactly what to put.

I could do a genre, like fantasy or romance. I could do why I love YA, or new adult.  I could do why I love Rick Riordan, but haven’t I already gone into that one.

Then I thought about lockdown and things I’m missing.

I’m not missing a huge deal.  I am very much a house cat and don’t feel the need to go out all the time.  I don’t party and most of my friends are in my books, on the internet, or at least reachable through social media.

After all that thought, I came up with one thing.

Bookshops.

I miss bookshops.

I miss browsing the shelves and finding new authors and comfy chairs and good deals.

So here is my list of why I love books shops:

  1. Knowledgeable staff
  2. Comfy chairs
  3. Browsing
  4. Other readers
  5. Special editions
  6. Other bookish stuff (i.e pin badges, bookmarks, calenders)
  7. Cats (I’ve talked about Shakespeare and Company a lot while I was living in Paris but they’re bookshop has cats in it)
  8. Time.  It always feels like I have all the time in the world when I’m at a bookshop
  9. New authors
  10. And most of all … they have books!

So what do you love about bookshops?  What is you favourite thing about bookshops? And are you missing them as much as I am?

Or tell me what you love and give me the reasons why you love it.

    1. I spend inordinate amounts of time in bookshops! When I go shopping with friends (or family) they know that to let me go into a bookshop means I won’t be coming out for at least an hour… maybe two

    1. There are so many bookshops in Paris! When I was living there my apartment was above an old second hand bookshop. There are quite a few English bookshops in Paris, you’ve just got to know where to look, but unfortunately they can be quite expensive. For brand new books my favourites were either shakespeare and co or WHSmiths. For second hand bookshops there are two Abbey Bookshop or San Francisco Book Company. There is a third option. Librarie Galignani which is international. You can find books in many languages there.

      1. Yes, Shakespear&Co and WHSmith are the best when you seek english books, however, not a lot of hardcover there ^^ but S&C stays one of my favourite place in Paris ❤
I met Leigh Bardugo a few months ago at Librarie Galignani, it was my first time there and I really enjoyed 🙂

Thank you for all the tips ❤

      2. I love S&C! I used to live about five mins walk from there. On a Sunday evening there used to be a poetry reading. That was always amazing. So many people would come that you had to sit on the floor.
I’m so jealous about meeting Leigh Bardugo. I would have loved that!

      3. Maybe. I’ll have to see where I am with everything. It’s hard thinking about the future at the moment. All my plans have completely gone out the window

    1. I miss browsing genres. Even though I have particular go-to genres and go-to areas of the shop I always like browsing other genres to see if I can find hidden gems. Amazons recommendations doesn’t give you stuff like that!

  1. First of all, I also adore Rick Riordan! Bookshops are one of my favorite places to be; I love the smell, bookish goodies, everything! I could browse in a bookstore or library for hours — and I have! Happy reading!
