Hi all!

My name is Chiara and I am a Bookworm.

I am so excited to tell you all about this book. It may be the best book that I have read all year.

I want to begin by thanking Dave from The Write Reads, the publishers and the amazing author, B.B. Alston, for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I devoured every single page of this book.

Amari Peters knows three things.

Her big brother Quinton has gone missing.
No one will talk about it.
His mysterious job holds the secret . . .

So when Amari gets an invitation to the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs, she’s certain this is her chance to find Quinton. But first she has to get her head around the new world of the Bureau, where mermaids, aliens and magicians are real, and her roommate is a weredragon.

Amari must compete against kids who’ve known about the supernatural world their whole lives, and when each trainee is awarded a special supernatural talent, Amari is given an illegal talent – one that the Bureau views as dangerous.

With an evil magician threatening the whole supernatural world, and her own classmates thinking she is the enemy, Amari has never felt more alone. But if she doesn’t pass the three tryouts, she may never find out what happened to Quinton . . .

My Thoughts

This may be the best children’s fiction I have ever read, second only to Rick Riordan, and I think B.B. Alston may have even knocked Uncle Rick off his top spot.

That is my long way of saying that I loved this book. Cover to cover, I couldn’t find one dull moment. I laughed, cried and despaired with Amari, who I think may be my new hero. Amari seems to take everything in her stride in this adventure of hers and even manages to do things the adults wouldn’t even dream of.

I loved the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs. It reminds me a lot of the Ministry of Magic in harry Potter, but with a lot more unusual names, such as The Department of Good Fortunes and Bad Omens, The Department of the Unexplained and The Department of Half Truths and Full Cover-Ups. That final one may be my favourite and where I would work if I were to ever get a nomination.

This book is a brilliant debut and the author has really hit it out of the park. I look forward to reading book no.2, whatever that maybe and B.B. Alston has a new fan for life.

I recommend this to you all. It will make a great adventure for your child, grandchild or even a dip back into childhood adventures for yourself.

Until next time …

HAPPY READING!
