Goodreads Choice Award 2020 Categories: Best Romance

Hi all!

My name is Chiara and I am a Bookworm.

We are heading into the Christmas season, and also the awards the season. Goodreads have already announced their long list for the Goodreads Choice award, in fact the opening round closed yesterday. I hope that you have voted already, or that you are planning to vote for you favourite books.

But for the next four Mondays I am planning to tell you all about my four favourite categories and the brilliant books in each category. I’ve not read all the books in all the categories I’m going to talk about, but for those books I’m going to tell you about the blurb and if they are going to make an addition to my TBR.

This week’s category is Best Romance. Those of you who have been reading my blog regularly will know that I love a good romance story and this year has been full of them. I have a lot of reviews for you to read and a lot of books to read.

Something To Talk About by Meryl Wilsner

Read: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was so excited to read this book I bought it the day that it came out. I had one or two little problems but it really deserves all those stars. I hope you’ve read it. or I hope that you read it.

A Rogue of One’s Own by Evie Dunmore

Not read

This is the second book in what looks to be a really interesting series. I think this book, and obviously book 1, are an instant addition to my TBR. Let’s hope to see a review of at least book 1 soon.

New TBR addition? Probably. I’ll have to see how book 1 plays out first.

One To Watch by Kate Stayman-London

Read: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a brilliant book about breaking barriers and showing the world that who you are on the outside, or the inside, is no one else’s business but your own. It would have five stars but I found some of the male characters in the dating show at times a little two-dimensional.

You Had Me At Hola by Alexis Daria

Not read

I’ve not read this book yet but I was waiting impatiently for it to be released and it is currently sat in my Waterstones basket waiting to be bought.

The Switch by Beth O’Leary

Not read

This is Beth O’Leary’s second book and I just loved the first. This book is definitely on my Christmas wish list. The Flatshare was an amazing book and the first romance in a long time where I couldn’t predict what would happen next. My expectation for The Switch are incredibly high.

New TBR addition? Defintely

Regretting You by Colleen Hoover

Not read

I know very little about this book, apart from what I’ve read of the blurb. The blurb sounds interesting but I not completely sold on it. Have any of you read it? What did you think?

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall

Not read

This is another one I really need to read and I haven’t found time for it yet. I can’t wait to get round to it because it looks so good. Does the blurb give anyone else ‘Red White and Royal Blue’ feelings?

New TBR addition?

It was already on there and it is slowly making its way to the top of the list.

Beach Read by Emily Henry

Read: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book seemed to be the read of the summer. So many people were talking about it. Calling it the perfect beach read. I thought it was a pretty good beach read, but if I remember correctly I did have some problems with it. I have a strange feeling, though that it is going to place pretty high on the list.

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

Not read.

The blurb of this looks really interesting and it definitely seems to be a question between destiny and fate and how much control we really have over where we are going with our lives. I’d be interested to read it just to see what conclusion the author comes up with.

New TBR addition? YES!

In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren

Not read

I have still yet to read my first Christina Lauren book and I know some of you out there will be more than willing to tell me off for this. I want to read her books, in fact I have Unhooneymooners in my kindle waiting to be read. It’s just a matter of finding the time with everything else I want to read.

New TBR addition? Not new, but definitely on there.

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Not read

It has an interesting blurb and, I would definitely have to read it, but it seems to have some themes that I would associate with romance a lot more than I would associate with romance.

New TBR addition? Maybe

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

Not read

This has been on my list to read since it was released earlier this year, but I still need to read the first book in the series, Get A Life, Chloe Brown. I have lost count of how many times that I have been recommended these books. These romances look exactly up my street.

New TBR addition? Am I crazy? Of course they are.

The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver

Not read

I am not 100% sure that this book is for me. I think that it would be a very interesting take on the love story but I’m not sure how we get the fresh start that most romances give their characters.

New TBR addition? Maybe not.

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

Not read

Everyone knows that music and romance go hand in hand. The best Rom-Coms always have amazing soundtracks that we sing and hum for weeks, months or years later and think that’s what makes this a brilliant combination. I hadn’t heard of this book, or author, before I read the Goodreads nominations but it is certianly on my radar now.

New TBR addition? YES!

Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory

Not read

This sounds like a really interesting book. Particularly the intricacies of juggling a relationship in the spotlight. My major question would be, as this is book No. 5, does it stand on its own? And do I really want to read all the others? Maybe you all could tell me.

New TBR addition? Probably

  1. I haven’t read any of these.. Although I’m definitely interested in some, like Take a Hint Dani Brown (need to read book one as well) and the switch!
